Combined Heat and Power (referred to interchangeably as CHP or cogeneration) and Fuel Cells are both fuel-based generation options that offer a lower-carbon solution than coal. They run off gas* and provide reliable and resilient power with thermal energy capture. We integrate them with renewables for microgrids, and build and refurbish stand-alone plants, offering complete funded Energy as a Service packages.
Part of our strength with fuel-based technologies is our deep understanding of what will work for each clients’ specific circumstances, and expertise in integration with building controls and automation as well as operations. Whether that’s cost-effective heating and cooling as the priority for a municipal detention facility, or resilient power for critical equipment for acute care hospitals, our team assesses needs with stakeholders to propose the optimum solution.
*Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology is still in its infancy, but progress is being closely monitored by our team. Although natural gas is most common, Syngas and biogas-fueled options are available.
• We have a fuel-based portfolio of over 40 MW. Our CHP clients alone avoid 7 million MMBtu/year natural gas and electric consumption for heating and cooling and reduce NOx by 63 tons/year.
